Established in 1924, the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs was the first school in the nation to offer a graduate degree in public administration. The school has since maintained its reputation for excellence and is consistently ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the #1 school for graduate education in public affairs in the nation.
One of the greatest strengths of the Maxwell School is its diversity—both in the range of educational opportunities it provides for students and in the distinctive leaders who make up the Maxwell community. The school attracts students who go on to be leaders in all sectors around the world and award-winning faculty members, all working together to address the world’s most pressing challenges.
The Maxwell School is also host to nine interdisciplinary research centers, each focused on a different topical area within public affairs, such as social and economic policy, conflict and collaboration, public wellness, energy and environment, national security, and regional studies.
While each member of our global community has a unique career mission, they are united by a commitment to the Maxwell way, born of the Athenian oath: to leave the world a better place than they found it.
